F1 2009 PS4 H shifter for classic cars problem

Hi there.
First post so please go easy.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why my clubsport H shifter is not working with the classic cars
Such as McLaren M23. I have assigned the gears in settings. And changed to manual + clutch.
But Just not recognising!
Any help would be much appreciated. As I will only be driving the classic F1 cars as no interest in modern F1!
