GT Extreme DD+ and wheel selections

So

i have just sold my GT DD Pro because i need the newer shiny DD Extreme and have some questions about wheels. With my DD Pro i used the supplied 280mm ps4/5 wheel aswell as a Csl Elite Wrc wheel when i played on pc and i planned to keep my wrc wheel for my new dd+ wrongly beleiving that it would support 15Nm if i put a metal qr2 on the wheel.

I was gutted to find out that the wrc wheel will not support 15Nm as i just love the design of the wheel, i do like to have a ps wheel with my base hence wanting the extreme version and in theory that wheel alone could replace my wrc wheel but was wondering what my options are do i need the likes of a Bmw gt2 v2 to replace my wrc is that my best option. ?

Since the DD extreme wheel can support 15nm is its construction more akin to clubsport or csl wheels ?

GT DD Extreme steering wheel has a completely plastic construction, but unlike the WRC steering wheel, the construction is strong enough to withstand 15Nm.

BMW GT2 V2 has an all-metal construction and feels more rigid than the GT DD Extreme steering wheel.

  • BMW GT2 wheel is not completely round, mind you. Could be important for you. (or not). If you need a solid 100% round wheel, I'd recommend ClubSport RS. It also has a better button placement in my opinion, the buttons on the BMW wheel are harder to reach.

Yes just saw the rs wheel and looks more suitable to me being completely round, would a clubsport dd+ be powerful enough to run it without losing detail ?

Absolutely. I have essentially the same wheel (in its previous Porsche 918 RSR incarnation that I converted to QR2) and I am using it with the DD+. Can't complain about lack of details or the base not being strong enough for it

Thanks how'd you manage to convert? Didn't think it could be done on v1s.

I bought an adapter from AliExpress that you bolt to the wheel in place of the original non-swappable QR and it makes the wheel compatible with new QRs

  • you can get conversion kits here as well, along w. mag shifters

    did my 918 w them

Those are much more expensive (3-4 times the cost) and are arguably worse, because they are bolted to the wheel by just 3 screws, while the Chinese ones use all 6 original screws

I saw a simucube adapter but it didn't include any wiring, not sure if that is required.

You reuse the original Fanatec pin cable on the Chinese adapters. SRM includes a high quality replacement, adding cost. I've used both, no problems with either.

The SRM does only use 3 bolts, but seems strong enough. He uses the other 3 holes to use the same part as a emulator for 50mm steering wheels (The QR1 holes are 50.8mm). Should have slotted the holes IMO.

BTW the Chinese adapters use to be 1 piece CNC machined from a single block. Now are 2 piece (Like the SRM) to save machining.

So the Chinese ones are acceptable then.

    They are both well made.

My advice if you convert one is don't use L-shaped Allen wrenches. It is easy to damage the bolt heads with them. Instead use a good quality screwdriver with Allen bits so you can push down hard while breaking the Fanatec applied liquid locking compound loose on all the fasteners.

    EDIT to prior post...

Old QR1 bolt circle is 52mm, not 50.8mm
