Advice on sim rig grounding please

Seems base is well grounded by power cord. Everything else grounds through RJ12 cables. Is it even needed?

If so, should you daisy chain ground wires between components (base, pedals, shifter, hand brake). Or run grounds from components direct to wheelbase? Do you need to use a separate ground plug?

Don't want to create new problems ie ground looping.

  • No electrical engineers here so I asked Google...

"The best way to ground several components together is to connect all their ground wires to a single point, often called a "star ground," which ensures all components share the same electrical potential and minimizes the risk of ground loops; this single point should be as close to the power source as possible"

    So second option was correct.

  • I don't know what setup you have but I'm using a DD Pro and Simnet SP Pro pedals (previously the CSL + load cell) mounted on a GT Omega Prime Lite. I don't know if playing on console makes a difference but none of my gear is grounded and I've not had any issues - no handbrake or shifter though.

    I got a Gazzyt GS54

The shifter stand clamps to the frame over a painted surface. Don't think there is good electrical contact. Occasionally saw my ClubSport SQ Shifter in wrong gear from the gate it was in. So I ran a ground jumper from a mounting bolt on the shifter to a mounting bolt on my Podium DD1 Base.

Hopefully this might help bleed off static charge and stop mis-shifts.

I'll probably run another from the ClubSport v3 Pedals to the base.
