Clubsport Formula V2.5X update loop

Hi!

I got my son a Fanatec setup about a year ago and everything has been working ok - until yesterday.

I'm not sure what happened but steering wheel stopped properly communicating.

PC Driver version is 462 and I think the update was done some time ago, so I'm not sure how related it can be to the update.

The steering wheel is Formula V2.5 and there seems to be some communication issue (at least what I can see). It doesn't have any physical damage. When steering wheel is off, then Fanatec Control Panel detects the base just fine. When I put the steering wheel on, it seems to "disconnect" and shows the same page as nothing would be connected.

Now it does detect the wheel and keeps popping up the "Firmware updater" which completes just fine. Then few seconds later it pops up again and keeps doing it over and over again.

On some occasions I have gotten the firmware to detect the wheel just by turning it one direction and the other way (sometimes it seems to communicate when steering wheel has movement).

Since my son plays F1, then I managed to get it to somewhat "working" condition, where in play the steering worked but most of the buttons (if not all) didn't. Also in the Control Panel, when I can get it to show other devices (and steering wheel shows as disconnect), in wheelbase tab it shows wheel movement when I do it but steering wheel still looks disconnected. And like I mentioned before, when moving it about 90 degrees one way and the other way, it detects the steering wheel for a bit (and then disconnects).

When I managed to get it to show up in Firmware Manager, the firmware version also shows as 0.

I've tried going to version 463 and then 452 but not much changed.

I installed older firmware on the wheel base (what comes with v452) but still same issue.

I haven't tried downgrading steering wheel firmware to what comes with 452 as I haven't successfully managed to get the .hex file for it. I'm guessing I have to extract it from .msi file?

Also during the update it shows steering wheel as Formula V2. I'm not sure if it needs to show V2 or V2.5, since I've read they have pretty much the same firmware.

Everything points to steering wheel being the issue at the moment, but I'm not sure if I should try to downgrade the firmware or how to proceed.

Comments

  • Try reseating the shaft on the base (see instructions). This comes loose over time and affects the wheel connection.

  • Amazing, thank you.

Seemed to do the trick and connection is stable.

I read about this but somehow discarded it since all recent post seems to be about issues with software / firmware.

But yes, even as the clamp was on really tight, it had moved...

Control Panel trying to install the new software and the wheel itself having power (led display), made me think it was possibly more software / firmware related than anything else.
