Webshop is Down
Not sure what deal just dropped, like a BOM!!
Your estimated wait time is 23 minutes.
We are experiencing a high volume of traffic and using a virtual queue to limit the amount of users on the website at the same time. This will ensure you have the best possible online experience.

this is not a normal, probably something happens, like ddos
No ddos, its just the regular webshop issue on Black Friday which happens every year where it just crashes due to an excessive amount of people who visit the site.
Webshop is back up. But no new deal added.
Yes, it is very normal. It might be a DDoS, but considering that this is the last day that all the deals are up, i can imagine a lot of people have been waiting till today to order everything in one go - to save p+p etc.
It might be that the queue has been configured a bit aggressively - hence the longer wait times. But just throwing out a DDoS comment... really?
If it was a DDoS, you probably wouldnt even manage to hit the queue in the first place
if cloudflare self shows a message about traffic then something fishy happens, i to seen myself sometimes ddos attacks in unknown reason in my server in ovh
and look back to history, fanatec does been attacked before
Nothing fishy - Cloudflare Waiting Room. Google it.
Oh good - one server.
well, as someone who has actively implemented/administered a virtual queue, when we have known a large amount of traffic was expected, and seen/mitigated a few DDoS attacks in commercial environments , this doesnt seem like one to me.
there is full week been all ok in they webpage and suddenly comes this kind traffic?
Yes... As i explained already - people waiting to see the final days of deals, people waiting to purchase everything at once, Americas logging on.
Or could just be a more aggressive queue threshold. Or a web server crashed. Who knows. If it was a proper DDoS i doubt youd even to get to the queue.
And look, its quietened down already. If it was script kiddie with a DDoS attack, it would be going on for hours
well, i not know where they run they server but ovh self does have ddos protection, if something like this happens server switch to high traffic mode. regular user not know this stuff tho and for them seems all ok
And cloudflare doesnt have ddos protection as standard. It will just shut down all traffic to the site to protect its own network. You can have a virtual queue activated, if you pay for it etc.
Im going to say it again. THIS WAS NOT A DDoS attack.
It was anticipated high volumes of traffic, and Fanatec took precautionary measures to stop the usual "Blue F1 wheel - server down" screen.
I was pleasantly surprised when i saw the queue screen. not the 30 min wait - but that quickly passed and lowered.
feels like there is huge demand then that even cloudflare cant handle this
What? Is there a language barrier here?
The Cloudflare queue is MANUALLY implemented. It was turned on at the request of Fanatec. Who said Cloudflare couldnt handle it?
The queue can be set to whatever Fanatec want.... If they want to limit it to once person accessing the web store at a time, then thats what the queue will do.
Its like queuing in a supermarket. One till open = long queues. Two tills = half the queue time. Thats what this is.
The idea of a virtual queue is to LIMIT demand on servers - probably web servers. it was probably cheaper to MANUALLY put a queue in, than spin up extra web servers, infrastructure servers, financial transaction servers etc etc etc.
This is a genuine thing. This is Fanatec not wanting their own Servers being overrun with demand. Cloudflare just host their webshop, or internet pipe - or whatever.
The queue may be implemented 24/7 - but the queue kicked in because the web traffic hit a threshold
why would fanatec limit at quene? you nut or something? they are selling a products. if they limit a access users cant buy either
https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/application-services/products/waiting-room/
well, they to tell that they sell till sold out, soo this kind limit is weird really
you know there is a negative flaw at this cloudflare? if for example user limits a traffic, and someone attacks at same time, then noone actually can buy
Can i suggest you leave the webshop/cyber security to the experts? I have explained all this to you, but you arnt grasping what im saying.
This is to PROTECT FANATECS INFRASTRUCTURE. This is not amazon that has thousands of people shopping 24/7. This is a niche website with a niche product. That might get 100? 1000? people browsing per day. That needs a certain level of infrastructure to handle the demand.
Fanatec are not going to buy extra servers/infrastructure for 2 days worth of high traffic - so they limit the rate at which people can enter the web servers so they DONT CRASH AND FALL OVER.
If someone attacks with a DDoS - NO ONE can buy anything because, ya know what - THEIR INTERNET PIPE IS FULL. so no traffic gets in. Depending on the attack, you MIGHT be able to let some traffic through - but that wont need a QUEUE.
See my supermarket analogy.... Amazon have 10,000 tills open - per region. Fanatec has 2 per region. Thats the level we are talking here.
The problem is... He thinks he actually is an expert and that he knows more than others......🙈
not my business, but if they self limit a traffic then there could be a user that not have time wait that long. he close a webpage and shop somewhere else, just say
I know, ive seen some of the responses over the last few months on other topics....
i know that they cant sell if they limit a traffic like this. fanatec is not only one who have black Friday
Losing one sale - which from a business POV, the stock would still be bought if in high demand matters not who actually buys it.
Website crashing - no one can purchase anything - loss of all sales.
I dont really want to put my work history on here, or my real world experience about this - but you dont have any clue about this type of thing - the technology, the infrastructure, how it all ties together, the business reasoning behind ANY of this.
not my business, but this selling method is weird
its not weird. Its standard practice. That or automatically scale up cloud servers (if fanatec use cloud servers) - which costs money - to both spin up and to run.
You dont remember the earlier Fanatec black friday years where the web shop would die for hours, error pages, frustrating everyone (including me) to rush to buy what we wanted....
This year has been very smooth, as Fanatec have worked out how to handle the demand
i hope they not sped millions to they servers, if they to they been scamed
what?
i mean we to live at year 2023, this days connections are soo powerful that even home users could handle thousands users traffic
Ignore him - you can't win.
BTW - you are 100% right - but some people have big mouths and small ears.
This is the first time I've seen cloudflare waiting room in action and I have to say this is actually a very neat feature!
I've hit the queue twice this afternoon and each time it initially quoted me 20min or so, but each time I got in within about 5min (didn't time it, just switched to another tab in the meantime).
I'd assume that trying to reload the waiting room would probably bump you to the back of the queue so if you hit reload constantly you'll probably never get in ;-)
So thumbs up from me to Fanatec on handling this 👍️
