CSP V3 pedals and Logitech G29 wheel

I managed to eventually get both of these to work together by connecting the wheel to a Rear USB (2.0 or 3.2) and the pedals to a front USB (3.2). All work OK in Assetto Corsa Competizione this way around. However, I'd rather have my pedals in the rear and the wheel on the front or both in the rear if possible but when I connect them up this way the wheel no longer works in ACC. Any ideas why they both only work if the pedals are connected to the front USB and not the other way around? if it was a power or controller issue I would have thought it wouldn't make a difference which way around they were.
