McLaren GT3 : shifter paddle issues from overheating?
My GT3 wheel hasn't seen much use since I bought, due to unforeseen circumstanced. Now I started racing again and as of late got into iRacing.
At first there were no real issues with the wheel, but since I am now participating in longer racces and practice sessions I started to notice that shifts were missed and sometimes shifting again gave me 2 upshifts.
Thinking back I believe the shifting issue start occurring after a period of use of about 40-60 mins. Letting the wheel rest for some time will alleviate the issues, so it feels to me something is overheating?
I have read a lot about this wheel and shifter issues, but didn't come across anything that mentions overheating or it becoming worse and better again over time.
Have sent a mail to support, but my wheel is unfortunately 25 months old. Since I just invested in a rig, I am probably left with a rig and no wheel for some time and have to miss out on a lot of league races. Maybe someone knows a fix I could try myself?
(Looking at alternative wheels there really are none. The Formula wheels are too small (and I missed out on the 2020 version) and the others are not the style of wheel I am looking for)

Not sure about the tech aspects but why dont you look to get a wheel (aftermarket from sparco/omp etc) and the universal adapter?
Formula V2 steering wheel is smaller than the 2020 version? Just asking because you say that Formula wheels are small but you missed the 2020 version so I guess that you think that one would suit you.
I believe it is 1 cm bigger? Maybe I read wrong. 2cm bigger than Formula Black wheel. 2cm smaller than GT3 wheel.
I don't really like the universal adapter, as I want a wheel that has the buttons on the wheel, since I am driving in VR. With the detached buttons this doesn't really work I think. Also looks like the buttons are never near to your fingers. The GT3 I could operate blindly and without taking my hand of the wheel for almost everything.
I know the feeling. Bought the Porsche rim with the PBME for this reason.
Maybe a podium hub, with magnetic shifters, PBME and aftermarket wheel?
Just throwing ideas not to loose your season.
Clubsport, Clubsport V2 and 2020 edition are 27cm
McLaren is 30cm
I think the R300 is the only one (apart from the P1) that is 30cm now
Saw that but it requires soldering, don't know anyone that could do that, and they don't ship abroad due to covid19.
Since there has been no info on any new version of a GT3 wheel it might be a few years down the road.
I remember someone on a french forum with the same shifting issues on his mclaren GT3, it was not overheating. He managed to repair it himself, for free or so. He said the original soldering was bad.

Double post: the guy said he saw some soldering looking dubious, but not related to the shifting paddles. He thinks the problem came from the assembly, so if you disassemble and re-assemble your wheel you might get a perfectly fonctionnal wheel for free.
If you can read french, his pseudo is flagadim, he said "j'ai refais quelques soudures qui me paraissaient douteuses, mais pas au niveau des composants des palettes, je pense que le soucis chez moi c'était dû au montage"

I had my GT3 retrofitted with magnetic shifters. Cost more than the wheel itself but it's greatly improved now. Don't really like the small formula wheels.
Look at the bottom of this topic and i give details how to fix it permanently.
